IRON AGE

IRON AGE

In Europe the Iron Age dates from around 800 BCE to the Roman conquest (circa AD 50).  It is characterised by the use of iron instead of bronze to make tools and weapons and by new forms in pottery, artwork and ornaments. Iron age technology is thought to have spread outwards from Southern Europe.

Other than the site at Les Hougettes, very little evidence of Iron age settlement has been found on Alderney.
