Alderney is the third largest of the Channel Islands with a history dating back thousands of years. The Alderney Society runs many projects including restoring an eighteenth century watermill, facilitating archaeological digs and managing the Alderney Society Museum; the only museum on the island. Our work is helping to preserve the historical aspects of Alderney through preservation, conservation, archiving and academic research.
The Alderney Society is a non-profit organisation and a registered charity. We are self financing and all our work is based on volunteer support; currently our volunteers number over 80 people. Our volunteers help staff the museum during our summer opening hours, research the museum collections, help restore the watermill, catalogue our reference library and many more projects.
The Alderney Society stores all historical items donated to the museum from the public as well as caring for historical items belonging to the States of Alderney.
